Renovating a historic property always compels the questions: What’s staying? What’s going? and, What’s the plan?
Our plans for 902 N Mangum include reviving the building’s street-facing vintage charm, while modernizing the interior facilities for food-processing. Simply put, its handsome features will stay and its homely ones will go.
Bull City Cool will restore the exterior to its former glory as a 1950’s service station. This means removing the aluminum siding facade to reveal the beautiful scalloped white stucco that has endured over half a century. Perhaps we owe a “Thank You” to the aluminum siding company for inadvertently protecting this unique veneer.
It means restoring the windows above the front entrance facing the street corner, which are currently filled with plaster. It’s replacing all three glass-panel garage doors: two facing N Mangum, one facing E Geer. It’s bringing back character and depth to the structure, which has been obscured by so-called “improvements” over the past 65 years.
Inside, we’ll remodel to accommodate the building’s new purpose as a local food hub. We’ll install commercial walk-in coolers and freezers in the warehouse area, and build in food preparation stations in both the warehouse and West wing.
Stay tuned for updates as we begin construction, reveal more history about this local landmark, and promote healthy food business in the neighborhood.
