Wholesale Success is a day-long comprehensive workshop designed to help small and mid-sized fruit and vegetable farmers with one of the biggest challenges they face: helping their business grow! This program gives farmers the tools they need to make sure their produce is of the highest quality, to manage food safety and other risks, and to nurture the relationships with customers that they need to be successful.
For the past five years, FamilyFarmed.org, experienced farmer-trainer Atina Diffley, and on-the-ground partners have trained thousands of growers on how to better meet wholesale buyers’ expectations for product quality, consistency and food safety.
Topics covered in this workshop include: business and crop planning for wholesale, wholesale marketing, post-harvest handling, and wholesale risk management strategies. Light morning refreshments and lunch will be provided for attendees.
Each attendee will receive a copy of Wholesale Success: A Farmer’s Guide to Food Safety, Selling, Postharvest Handling, and Packing Produce, the definitive guide for produce farmers selling into wholesale markets. This 312 page manual builds the capacity of farmers to meet the burgeoning demand for locally/regionally grown fruits and vegetables. Wholesale Success covers up-to-date best practices information on food safety, post-harvest handling, packing, business management, marketing, and crop-specific profiles for over 100 crops. The manual is valued at $70.
This workshop is being hosted by the Bull City Cool Food Hub and Farmer Foodshare. Funds for this workshop are being provided by the USDA. USDA is an equal opportunity provider, employer, and lender.
